Material Safety Data Sheets Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) describe the potential hazards of a material and are made available by ESA in order to provide guidance on their safe handling, use, storage, and disposal. Their existence does not imply that the product is subject to regulation as a chemical substance or mixture. Each MSDS is created by the manufacturer of the chemical material under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard (HCS), 29 CFR 1910.1200, for Material Safety Data Sheets, which requires an MSDS be prepared for chemicals that are hazardous according to the criteria described in the HCS. An MSDS is designed to provide both workers and emergency personnel with the proper procedures for handling or working with a particular substance. MSDSs include information such as physical data (melting point, boiling point, flash point etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill/leak procedures. These documents are of particular use if a spill or other accident occurs. MSDSs, of course, do not contain all the information on a chemical. They are designed to give information about exposures resulting from customary and reasonably foreseeable occupational use, misuse, handling, and storage. For complete information, make sure you also use labels, technical bulletins, and other communications. Under the "Access to employee exposure and medical records" regulation (29 CFR 1910.1020), OSHA requires that the records identifying the substance or agent be retained in your facility for easy access by personnel and safety providers. Please note that although the information, opinions, and recommendations contained in these MSDSs are compiled from sources believed to be reliable, we accept no responsibility for the accuracy, sufficiency, or reliability for any loss or injury resulting from the use of this information. Newly discovered hazards are frequent and this information may not be completely up to date. Click here for MSDS's for LeadCare® products.
