Drug discovery

If your HPLC-based testing needs exceed your internal capacity, we can help. ESA offers the following services for drug discovery and development:

Stability and Degradation Studies The correlation between a compound’s redox potential and its relative tendency to undergo chemical oxidative degradation via electron transfer mechanism is widely recognized. Chemical oxidative degradation is a significant concern at all stages of drug discovery and development. This analytical service from ESA specifically addresses oxidative stability.

Redox Profiling Phase 1 drug metabolism frequently involves oxidative or reductive (redox) biotransformation reactions. Using a highly efficient coulometric electrochemical cell, an on-line method of purposeful (forced) oxidation has been developed. The EC cell is linked to a mass spectrometer to monitor the products of electrolysis. This service from ESA provides valuable insights into the products formed by oxidative degradation.

Electrochemically Assisted Ionization LC-MS has proven to be an indispensable tool in drug discovery and development. However, not all compounds are amenable to this analytical technique. Electrochemically assisted ionization (EAI) (also called condensed phase ionization and voltametrically assisted ionization) is the instrumental technique of placing an electrochemical cell before a mass spectrometer to facilitate the ionization of the compound, thereby enhancing the signal. This ESA service is designed to determine the viability of new drug candidates.
